Always a loving provider, Raymond worked hard throughout his life, first delivering bread by horse and buggy for his family bakery and later holding positions with Stride Rite, Airlift International, Boston Garden’s “Bull Gang,” and Tucker Construction.  His most important job, however, was showing love to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, making each one of them feel special and cared for.

At the request of family, services were held privately on Friday, March 12.  The family would like to express gratitude and heartfelt thanks to family, friends, Care Dimensions of Danvers, and The Dexter House of Malden for all their care and support.

Brousseau, raised her family of one son and two daughters and settled in Chelsea over 45 years ago.

She worked for several years as a sales associate in the Salvation Army Store in Chelsea and was a familiar presence to many along Broadway.  She also worked at Eastpointe Nursing home as a laundress and housekeeper and was hired as a private personal patient caregiver.  She attended adult day care at Happy Day’s in Chelsea and Community Family Care Inc. in Everett.  She also visited the Chelsea Senior Center on many occasions.  Her greatest pleasure was time with family and friends or simply being out and about with her niece, Barbara Ortiz.  (The two were often thought of as sisters.)

Joseph Mahoney

Chelsea Little League’s 1982 “Man of the Year”

Joseph C. “Joe” Mahoney of Methuen passed away on June 27 at Cedar Healthcare Center in Portsmouth, NH.

A long-time resident of Chelsea, Joe was born in Boston, raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School.  He began his career at Jordan Marsh where he met his beautiful bride, Cathy.  After 32 years at Jordan Marsh, Joe later worked in Everett as a warehouse dispatcher for Preferred Freezer, formerly Coldwater Seafoods, retiring to Methuen in 2011 to be closer to his grandchildren.

Joe was an avid sports fan, rarely missing a Red Sox, Bruins or Patriots game, even in the Grogan years, and NEVER missing one of his children’s games. From mite hockey to beer- league softball, Joe was in the stands, proudly watching his children compete (or warm the bench as the case may be). He was delighted to later bring that same enthusiasm and support as he watched his grandchildren excel on the field. Proud as he was of his children, Joe was on top of the world when he talked about his grandchildren.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption church in Chelsea, where he sent his children to school. Joe emphasized academic success and worked tirelessly to ensure his children had the education they needed to achieve their dreams.  Active in both the church and school, Joe could often be found calling Bingo on a Saturday night.  Immersing himself in all aspects of his children’s upbringing, he was Chelsea Little League’s “Man of the Year” in 1982, the plaque still displayed proudly in his home.

An avid bowler, Joe made his television debut on Candlepins for Cash, missing out on the Jackpot by one wobbly pin.  His children were delighted with the popcorn popper consolation prize.

Feeding five children is no easy feat, and there wasn’t much room for extravagances.  Still his children have memories of a rich childhood of summer days at Revere Beach and summer nights watching softball at Carter Park; Saturday Night Fever in the living room; and Tuesday night bowling in Kenmore Square, eating licorice and pleading for an extra quarter to play pinball.  Most special of all were those rare summer vacations when he and Cathy would rent a 15-passenger van, load it with children and snacks, and drive to West Virginia to visit family, stopping at the same places along the way, always ending at Hershey Park.

As much as he enjoyed these road trips, he was much happier later in life making the significantly shorter drive to Foxwoods.  And when Foxwoods became too far, he looked forward to card games at the dining room table every holiday with family and friends.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Catherine R. (Cormier) Mahoney of Methuen and his children: Joseph, Jr. and Lois Mahoney of Leesburg, Virginia, Catherine and Peter Wonson of Ipswich, Christine Mahoney and Fred Durant of Chelsea, Elizabeth Mahoney of New York, NY and James Mahoney of Methuen.  He was the cherished grandfather of Rosemary, Josephine and James Mahoney, Jr. and lovingly remembered by his sisters: Arlene Mahoney of Quincy, Virginia Sovie and her husband, William of Arlington and Karen Mahoney of Quincy.  Joe was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Katherine Mahoney of Quincy and is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and most dearly missed by his cat, Henry.

His Funeral will be held from the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St. Arlington, Friday, July 2 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in St. Agnes Church, Medford St., Arlington at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are today, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. For obituary, directions or to send an online condolence please visit www.keefefuneralhome.com.

Thomas Byczkoski

He Never Gave up on Himself or on Love Itself

Thomas Henry Byczkoski, 77, of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, passed away in his sleep on June 29 at the Wakefield Center following an illness.

Mr. Byczkoski was a 1963 Chelsea High School graduate. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army against the advice of his doctor. One of his proudest achievements was receiving his U.S. Army Completion of Training certificate. However, due to a medical condition, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on September 12, 1968.

Throughout his life “Mr. Thomas” held various positions working as a bartender, security officer, working in retail, working in the furniture business in which he employed his nephew, Edmund Kopaczynski for a while and then, in his final role prior to his illness, he worked as a private investigator.

Thomas’ presence was as big and noticeable as he was. Standing well over six and a half feet tall, Thomas had a booming voice that could be heard from rooms away. That voice would lend to many karaoke stages throughout his life. A regular at the Kowloon in Saugus, Thomas would make cassette recordings for his Godson Thomas Kopaczynski, belting out the tune he told people was written for him, “My Way” by the great Frank Sinatra.

With a deep and commanding voice while towering over most people he encountered, he was quite intimidating and downright scary to interact with if you did not know him well.

Thomas took it upon himself to ensure that his late parents, Ed and Lucy, were well taken care of when they moved into an assisted living facility. Often Thomas was brash and loud as he made inquiries on the level of care his parents were receiving, earning him a few nicknames from staff at the facility.

Upon the death of his mother, Thomas was gracious and thankful and expressed that to the staff that oversaw her care. Following her funeral, Thomas told one of his nephews, “Make sure you hug your mother extra each time you see her, I wish I had.”

Whenever one of Thomas’ siblings needed a helping hand, he was the first to stop what he was doing and dash over with bags full of food, extra money, one of the tightest bearhugs you ever received and, of course, he would have queued up some jokes.

That rough and tough man of steel exterior broke in 2005 when he was asked to be a pallbearer for his beloved “second brother,” his brother-in-law, Paul. He declined by stating “I just can’t do it, not even for Paul,’’ and he was moved to tears.

Thomas struggled through his life to be a good man. He was not perfect, then again who is? He loved his family and close circle of friends, he never gave up on himself or on love itself.

Thomas was born September 8, 1943, the  loving son of the late Edmund S. and Lucy A. (Byczkoski) Wisniewski.  He was the lovable and funny brother of Lucille A. Kopaczynski and her late husband, Paul of Stoneham and Edmund S. Byczkoski Jr. of Wakefield and the father of Robin Levin of Chelmsford. Thomas also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Ann Catalano of Newport, RI, Mary Burns of Billerica, Lynn Casa of Epping, NH, Elaine Navarro of Stoneham, Beth Agneta of Plaistow, NH, Edmund Kopaczynski of Litchfield, NH, Joseph Kopaczynski of Springfield, Pa., Edmund S. Byczkoski III of Fort Bragg, NC and Thomas Kopaczynski of Boston; great-nephews and nieces: Adam, Nicholas, Amanda, Daniel, Caitlyn A, Kyle, Caitlyn B, Evangelyn, Jonathan, Edmund IV, Robert Jr., Katrina, E’Angelyliz, Paul J.,  Ella F. and Evand.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Smith Funeral Home, Chelsea.

All are invited to a Memorial Mass to celebrate Tommy’s Life on Saturday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Częstochowa, 655 Dorchester Ave.,  South Boston, MA 02127

Dr. Eduardo María Budge Liceti

Respected and Much Loved MGH Chelsea Pediatrician

Dr. Eduardo Maria Budge Liceti passed away unexpectedly on November 28.

He was born in Lima, Peru on October 5, 1959, the fourth son of Violeta Liceti and Pablo Budge. He had three siblings: Patricia, Silvia, and Andrés (deceased). His father remarried Aurora Roca and then came five more siblings: Pablo (deceased) and his twin, María Mónica, Elizabeth, Jorge Luis and Francisco.

From a young age, Eduardo was curious, eager to learn and a little bit of a trouble maker. Whether it was running down neighborhood kids on his tricycle, running away to climb a tree and watch everyone search for him, or being found, yet again, at the clinic on the next block getting stitched up, he always kept his family on their toes and gave them a good laugh. As a brother and son, Eduardo was dedicated, loving, generous and always present even when he wasn’t physically close by.

Eduardo’s school friends always described him as empathetic and generous with a great sense of humor. A teacher once said that although he did bother the class sometimes, he had a big heart of gold.
Eduardo attended the Marist College in Lima, Peru and then did his medical degree at Cayetano Heredia University. Later he would do his specialization in Pediatrics and Pulmonology.

Eduardo married María del Carmen García Figari and they moved to the United States where he would complete his residency and begin his admirable career as a pediatrician.  Eduardo worked at MGH Chelsea for 26 years. Although he was always a jokester, he took his job very seriously. He had a great amount of love and respect for all of his colleagues, patients and their families and received the same amount of love and respect in return. He could not go anywhere without at least one person coming up to say hello. Eduardo’s patients were his top priority and he was the kind of doctor that any parent would feel lucky to have for their child. Dr. Budge made such a big impact on his patients that many of them even came back to see him years later with their own children.

Eduardo’s biggest accomplishments in life, however, were his two children: Alonso and Mariana. He was so proud of Alonso’s entrepreneurial spirit and was incredibly supportive while Alonso started and continued to grow his business. Any time Alonso had a new idea for his business, even if it sounded crazy, Eduardo proudly stood beside him and believed in him. Whenever he would talk about Mariana following in his footsteps and taking the journey of becoming a doctor, his eyes would light up. He knew that she not only had the intelligence that it would take to succeed, but also the empathy and big heart that would make her excel as a pediatrician. The bond that Eduardo had with both his children was strong and unbreakable.

Eduardo also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Haley and his granddaughter, Gianna. Gianna was the light of Eduardo’s life.  Although they only had each other for a short 18 months, the love they shared for each other was beautiful and they created a bond as strong as the one he shared with his children. Anytime he saw her it was like his heart melted and all the worries disappeared. He loved to watch her learn and play. He also loved taking selfies with her and photos of her. He always seemed to capture the best ones. She was his pride and joy. Eduardo also had a very loving relationship with Haley and they often found themselves laughing together at things no one else thought were funny. He always answered Haley’s calls and eased her mind whenever she had any concerns about Gianna’s well being. Even when it was something silly like hiccups lasting too long, he never made Haley feel like she was overreacting and continuously assured her that she was “doing a great job”.

Eduardo’s mischievous tendencies from childhood carried on into his adult life as well. He enjoyed riding around on his Vespa (a nice upgrade from his tricycle), showing up unexpectedly in the early morning hours to visit family, testing his luck with daring stunts on motorcycles and boats (his luck usually betraying him), stirring the politics pot, and telling jokes that weren’t always funny but made you laugh anyways just because of the way he told them and the way he would laugh until he couldn’t catch his breath or finish the joke. These quirks are the things about Eduardo that his family will miss the most.

Eduardo will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and patients. His big heart and great sense of humor will live on in our memories of him. Eduardo was laid to rest, surrounded by his loved ones in Lima, Peru.
